On my way to a lunch with a friend, I saw many business set up for “Zhongyuan Pudu”, 中元普渡, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, a local ritual to honor ancestors and wandering spirits. At the end of the seventh month on the lunar calendar, so-called 'Ghost Month', is when the gates of hell open and the spirits trapped therein are able to wander freely among the living.
We ate at 吉星港式飲茶 for Hong Kong style snacks paired with tea, such as shrimp pot (蝦煲), fish filet balls (石斑鱼片), etc., that were different from what I already tasted recently like Siu Mai (pork dumplings), Gai Daan Jai (egg waffles), etc.
