I teamed up with a hostelmate to day-trip to Cefalù (a fishing village and popular beach resort on the north coast of Sicily). I started with climbing Climb the Rock (La Rocca), my hostelmate doesn’t wear strong enough shoes to hike, so I did by myself. Nevertheless, my beaten up sports sandals barely made up hills, yet quite slippery on polished rocks.
There are several ruin sites (such as Diana's Temple (Tempio di Diana), and view points on the hike (the Bay Area and great views of the red-roofed town. Since their ticket machine was broken, the 5€ fee was waived.
I then met up with my hostelmate at the Cefalù Cathedral (Duomo di Cefalù), had lunch at a restaurant with beach views, took a nap in the shade in front of the rocky beach.
We walked a little to find shade, then I decided to head back to Palermo in the afternoon, while my hostelmate was still enjoying Cefalù views and slightly cooler weather than Palermo.
I got a fried rice ball, beer, vege, and Spaghetti for dinner. Arancini, rice balls stuffed with sauce and peas, are one of the best-loved Sicilian snacks and street foods. The classic filling includes a meat ragù, green peas, and melty mozzarella. The rice is scented with saffron and the rice balls are rolled in breadcrumbs before frying them into croquettes.
