What a coincidence that today’s gifted lunch was Taiwanese beef noodle soup (臺灣清敦半筋半肉宽麵) plus water spinach空心菜by 玖伍川味牛肉麵水餃(忠孝店). As mentioned, the beef was stewed with the broth and simmered for hours to enhance the flavor. This recipe has a different kick from 紅🔥。
Last time I ate water spinach空心菜 was 2019 in Lao 寮国。Water spinach, also known as morning glory, swamp cabbage, or water convolvulus, is a versatile vegetable I like and it is used in almost every Asian cuisine.
The hotel delivered a box of fruits @ 3 pm (to thank for my business?). I booked the room without meals, but happily took free fruits even if it might be a mistake.
Tonight I had the last meal delivered by friends and family: 彰化肉圆 (disk-shaped translucent dough made of sweet potato starch and filled with a savory stuffing and served with a sweet and savory sauce), and 四神汤(Four-Herbal Soup made from four herbal ingredients and pork belly or pig small intestine). I will be free since tomorrow and only need to come back to hotel to sleep.
Back in May 2022, I was not sure whether the Taiwanese quarantine policy would be widened enough for me to visit, so I booked Naples - Taiwan - DC tickets with UA miles as well as Naples - DC tickets with AA miles to prepare to visit Taiwan or not. I took the visiting option, then canceled AA flights and deposited back the miles. Glad that I only need to quarantine 8 days with last 4 days walking freely if antigen test negative. In other words, I can visit contacts since 8/11 tomorrow!
