Day trip to Taormina

I was lucky to tour Taormina with my hostelmate Danilo who came from Brazil, speaks Italian, and visited Taomino once in winter. We took 1-hr train to get to this charming hillside town on the east coast of Sicily, Italy and one of the island's main tourist resorts. Our uphill 250-meter hot walk in the sun reminded me of Santorini Island in Greece (great ocean views, yet not as colorful).

The Main Street of Taormina was crowded with tourists, it is far more pleasant and (slightly) less busy to get away from the main attractions, such as Taormina Main square, Church of St. Joseph, Cathedral San Nicolo portal, Piazza IX Aprile, Teatro Greco (Roman theater), Piazza Duomo by the fountain of Montorsoli, Isola Bella beach, etc. I did enjoy the views of Isola Bella and Taormina public garden.

We stopped by Lido to buy some food, yet surprising found out the volunteers in our hostel already prepared some food to shared. We happily enjoyed the pesto spaghetti (freshly made sauce from scratch), spicy eggplant, and stirred vege, paired with icy cool coke. I was told that pesto sauce consists of crushed garlic, European pine nuts, coarse salt, basil leaves, and hard cheese such as Parmigiano-Reggiano (also known as Parmesan cheese) or Pecorino Sardo (cheese made from sheep's milk), all blended with olive oil.
